چکیده

Recent observations of nanoscale surficial amorphous films in Bi2O3-doped ZnO are briefly reviewed. The experimental results are modeled with two approaches. A pressure-balance model with the volumetric free energy being the dominant temperature-dependent interaction extended from Clarke’s intergranular films model is proposed and numerically evaluated. This quantitative model predicts thicknesses versus temperature behavior for subeutectic films consistent with experimental results. Alternatively, the sequence of adsorption and wetting events as a function of temperature and composition is interpreted as a case of combined surface prewetting and premelting in a two-component system with a bulk eutectic reaction as a generalization of Cahn’s critical point wetting model. In this second approach that better represents the through-thickness gradients, d t ©

Effect of morphology and nonbounded interface on dielectric properties of plasma sprayed BaTiO3 Coating

In this research, BaTiO3 thick deposit has been successfully sprayed by air plasma spray. The microstructure and dielectric properties of thick films were investigated by secondary electron microscopy (SEM) and LCR meter respectively. XRD measurement was carried out on plasma sprayed BaTiO3. The results illustrate differences in the crystal structure between plasma sprayed coatings and feed sto...

Stabilization of Nanoscale Quasi-Liquid Interfacial Films in Inorganic Materials: A Review and Critical Assessment

Recent observations of three classes of nanometer-thick, disordered, interfacial films in multicomponent inorganic materials are reviewed and critically assessed. The three classes of films are equilibrium-thickness intergranular films (IGFs) in ceramics, their free-surface counterparts, that is, surficial amorphous films (SAFs), and their metallic counterparts. Also briefly reviewed are severa...

Optical properties, electronic structure and London dispersion interactions for nanostructured interfacial and surficial films

Nanostructured amorphous films exhibit complex thermodynamic and kinetic behavior. To understand the structure and properties of nanostructured amorphous films in silicon based ceramics (Si3N4, SiC, Si) and in SrTiO3 ceramics, we have focused on experimental studies to determine the interband electronic structure and optical properties. We use vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopy for bulk materials,...

Wetting and Prewetting on Ceramic Surfaces

The stabilization of nanoscale surficial amorphous films (SAFs) for Bi2O3 on ZnO, VOx on TiO2, SiOx on Si, and several other oxide systems provides evidence for the existence of prewetting phenomena with analogies in water and other simple systems, as well as the stabilization of intergranular amorphous films in ceramics. Experimental results show that in the subeutectic regime, the equilibrium...

Crystallization in organic semiconductor thin films: a diffuse-interface approach.

The crystallization of organic semiconductor thin films from an amorphous phase often results in a broad range of microstructures and molecular arrangements that in turn critically impact the electronic properties of the film. Here we present a diffuse-interface model of thin film crystallization that accounts for out-of-plane tilting of the kinetically favored crystalline orientation as well a...
